    Hi!

Generally we would advise going for a server-powered FotoWare system when dealing with these amounts of pictures. However, in the end it comes down to how you work with your collections. If you're after browsing and retrieving, factors such as cpu, memory an the I/O of your drives will also have an impact on performance and the time it would take to scan and search through these files. Assuming your pictures are not all in the same physical folder, you can use FotoStation to create archives (shortcuts) that point to a given folder or a hierarchy of folders which is effectively a subset of your entire collection.  So my best recommendation would be to give it a try and see whether you're getting the performance you're after. On FotoStation.com you can get a free trial with no limitations to try it out.

If you're interested in looking at the server-based solution, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial of our cloud service https://signup.fotoware.cloud/.
